Research: Trans* Birth Care In Canada Study
It’s no secret that our CEO, Trystan Reese, is an expert on trans pregnancy and the research surrounding the topic—he’s spent years studying the in’s and out’s of trans fertility, in addition to being a trans gestational parent himself! So we were happy to work with Emily Percival-Paterson as they began the design of their research study on trans birth care in Canada. Emily is a Master of Science International Public Health (Sexual and Reproductive Health) student at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, in Liverpool, UK.
We were hired by Emily to review their study and look for factual or style corrections, based on our years of experience working with research to create content and curriculum for trainings. We met with Emily over Zoom to share crucial information on best practices for recruiting study subjects. We also taught Emily the most inclusive ways to talk about trans bodies throughout a survey, such that the data collected is both accurate and relevant to the interview subjects, and we highlighted peer research studies for Emily to review, in order to reduce the likelihood of duplicative data collection.
Collaborate Consulting has also partnered with this study to recruit study subjects, increasing the number of participants who eventually contributed their stories to this body of research. We are proud to partner with researchers and educational institutions across the globe as they work to learn more about LGBTQ family-building, transgender fertility, and trans pregnancy!
When researching trans experiences, it’s common for even the most informed and well-intentioned researchers to unintentionally miss the mark, even when they’re dedicated to producing high-quality data. A partnership with Collaborate can ensure that your study matches your intention, and that the data you collect makes a positive impact on the world.
