Trans Fertility Training at 2022 2SLGBTQ+ MEANINGFUL CARE CONFERENCE

EMBRACING COMMUNITY WISDOM:

A TRAUMA-INFORMED ANTI-RACIST LENS ON 2SLGBTQIA+ HEALTH

MARCH 29, 2022.

A day-long training event for healthcare and social service professionals, the Meaningful Care Conference aims to promote 2SLGBTQ+* cultural competency in health care and social services, share current 2SLGBTQ+ best practices, and to develop and diversify networks of 2SLGBTQ+ culturally competent health care and social service providers.

*Language is nuanced and the planning committee acknowledges that the acronym 2SLGBTQ+ is limiting as language and identity continues to evolve. By adding a + symbol we hope to be inclusive of all terms one may use to self identify. Beginning in 2020, the committee chose to include Two Spirit to elevate Native voices and recognize the systematic erasure of non-binary identity from Tribal communities.

Seahorses and Unicorns: Community-based knowledge on trans fertility

Level: Advanced

1:15 PM-2:15 PM

Description

Academic, clinical, and medical research on transgender fertility has largely focused on trans pregnancy-- when research on the subject exists at all. Looking at small sample sizes has severely limited the recommendations that are made within the world of trans fertility, and studies have often asked questions that seem meaningful to the researchers without much input from actual trans community members. This presentation will expand beyond research-based knowledge on trans fertility, venturing into community-based and -driven questions and recommendations that draw from decades of lived experience in the world of trans fertility.

Learning Objectives:

- At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to critically analyze current and future research on trans fertility through a lens of inclusion.

- At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to identify three key aspects of trans fertility that have not been adequately addressed through research conducted at major medical institutions.

- At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to describe three community-driven recommendations regarding trans fertility that have heretofore not been captured in medical studies.
