Not That Kind Of People: Stepping outside of your box

I try hard not to label myself as being “not into something.” But let’s face it… there are just some things I am not into. I am not into sports. I am not into car racing. And I am not into trucks. But when we decided to go to Oregon’s premier sacred music festival, Beloved, I imagined how nice it would be to have a truck. We wouldn’t struggle to get into and out of our camping spot like we did last time (it’s pretty back-woods). We would have enough room to put an inflatable bed in the back, so Biff wouldn’t complain about how awkward and cold sleeping bags are. And we would actually have enough space to hold our camping gear and festival stuff! So I bit the bullet and agreed to test out a GMC Sierra AT4.

I don’t know if you know trucks, but this truck is like… the godfather of all trucks. Just to give you an example, during the week I was driving this truck, I was sitting in a parking lot sending a text and a dude walked up to me and made me roll down the window just so he could tell me, “That’s a big truck!” THAT’S the kind of truck this is. And it’s not just that it’s big. It also has features that our Nissan Cube never DREAMED of. Here’s what it’s got:

  • MultiPro Tailgate: The tailgate (a word I have literally never used before in my life) adjusts in so many different ways! It unlatches and drops down into two steps, which made it super easy to get in and out of the back… this was also a godsend when packing everything for our trip!

  • Multicolor Head-Up Display: Here’s the thing… I’m a distracted driver. I don’t mean to be, and I do everything I can to keep my eyes on the road. But I’m often adjusting the radio and the temperature, in addition to checking the speed, side view and rear view mirrors, and fuel gauge. I like to know what’s happening all the time and everywhere. So how much did I love the fact that on the inside of the windshield itself, you can see how fast you’re going, if you’re too close to the car in front of you, if the car in front of you has slammed on their breaks… and more!

  • High-Definition Surround Vision: Listen, the PACK YOU IN at Beloved. We were mere feet from the van in front of us and the Subaru in back of us. It was a tight squeeze, but getting out was so easy! On the screen, not only can you see the angle you’re backing out at, but you also get a bird’s eye view of the scene around the vehicle. When we decided to head home, Biff told me he would go to the bathroom then when he came back, he would maneuver us out of our spot. But while he was gone… I was able to do it on my own. Needless to say, he was very impressed when I picked him up at the port-a-potties.

  • Advanced Safety Features: There are too many of these to even list out fully! But we noticed the HD Rear Vision Camera, Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Pedestrian Alert/Braking etc. These are all super-useful features to keep us all safe while on the road.

Never say never, but I probably WON’T be going to a football game anytime soon. However, I officially loved our family’s time with this truck! It made our travels to and from the woods of Beloved so much more enjoyable. In case you needed it, here’s further proof that you should, at least every once in awhile, step outside your box and try something new.
