Beyond Rainbow Flags: LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Fertility

More and more LGBTQ+ people are pursuing fertility treatment in order to build their families and prepare for the future. But fertility organizations often lag behind what the community needs. LGBTQ+ people find that paperwork doesn’t represent them, the language used online and in the office isn’t inclusive, and providers aren’t always sure what adjustments need to be made for these modern patients.

This interactive training covers the following topics:

  • The “Four Pillars of Identity.” This tool provides an introduction to the core concepts that undergird LGBTQ+ identities. The Four Pillars of Identity are assigned sex at birth, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Understanding these principles helps learners grasp the more advanced allyship actions offered in the remainder of the session.

  • Using a practical, professional approach, learners will master the usage of gender-inclusive language in the workplace, including a three-step tool for using gender-neutral pronouns fluently.

  • Learners will gain an understanding of the unique barriers faced by the LGBTQ+ community as they work to navigate fertility, family-building, and parenting.

  • We will take a deep dive into the newest research around parental intentions, transgender fertility, fertility preservation, and more, depending on Client need.

  • The session will end with concrete tools and skills that can be utilized by staff at all levels as they work to provide supportive services to LGBTQ+ consumers and stellar allyship to LGBTQ+ colleagues.
